One of the most beautiful guest houses in Swellendam, on South Africa's Garden Route. Experience stylish living on a large country retreat. Augusta de Mist is a luxury retreat set on 1.5 ha of eclectic fynbos. The guest house is conveniently located in the Historic Quarter of Swellendam and in typical Cape fashion tells the old stories of this old Overberg town in a deeply romantic 1802 Cape Dutch homestead with more original features than you can shake a stick at.
The homestead's shutters are yellowwood and the ironmongery original, as indeed are the reed ceilings which are held together by 200+ year-old mud and clay. No wonder then that the homestead, Park Villa, is a National Monument.
Augusta de Mist guest house on the Garden Route has a solid reputation for it's breathtaking gardens, attention to detail, excellent service, interior design, luxury as well as some of the finest food in the Overberg. Wander past the pool, over seasonal streams to stumble upon the garden cottages. Augusta's allure is obvious: simple white structures, reminiscent of the historic cottages of this region, reed ceilings, contemporary interiors and art, bucolic views and indigenous planting.

For a unique dinner experience, book a table at 'Augusta's African Kitchen' with its focus on pan-African cuisine. Our food reflects the variation and depth of the African continent. We cook because we love the flavours of South Africa. We love the fact that Milktart can be made in a different way depending if you are Afrikaans or Muslim. So whether you like koeksisters or koesisters, we want you to be satisfied after dinner. Augusta de Mist has fragrant herb, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a small olive orchard.
Produce is selected daily and a multi-course menu is offered on dinner evenings, with each course providing a celebration of African flavour, colour and provenance. Some of the vegetables and herbs are grown in Augusta de Mist's own gardens and ceps are picked in the forest in season.
Cape Malay curries, Kenyan groundnut chicken curry, Moroccan tagines, Tunisian couscous, Malawian peanut soup, Indian influenced tandoor, Portuguese peri-peri, Xhosa spinach patties: food fusion of the highest order.
Expect dishes as varied as Biltong Soup, Banana Soup, Butter Chicken, Breyani, Tandoor, Zeilook, Springbok Carpaccio, Bobotie, Lamb Denningvleis, Lentil Curry, Oxtail Mwana wa Nkosa, Lamb Curry, Chicken & Peanut Curry, Karoo Porchetta, Malva Pudding, Patat Pie, Tarte au Citron, Syrah Sorbet, Vetkoek, Koeksisters, Hungry yet?
